Jean Hughes (2014)

1989 Cross-Country, Track and Field Jean Hughes comes from a running family. Her brother was a star at Ridgewood High School as was her older sister. Jean was successful at an early age, having won the Ridgewood 5th grade Election Day run. However Jean's background and early interest was but a small for shadow to a great career in competitive running that was to unfold. In addition, she has been a great ambassador and role modelfor her team and the running community in general. Jean has had great impact from her first varsity team in high school to her mentoring young female runners today. Jean earned 12 letters in Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Spring Track while leading Ridgewood Track to "team of the century status" in 1988 and Ridgewood Cross Country to Undefeated dual, country, and sectional championship seasons. Between her high school, collegiate, and post-collegiate athletic career, she is one of the most versatile and accomplished cross-country and track & field athletes in Ridgewood High School and Bergen County History. She competed in every event from 400m relays through 5000m runs. She had speed and endurance,but maybe more importantly had a competitive intensity that was an inspiration to her coaches and teammates. In addition to all of the team championships she was part of at Ridgewood High School, Jean earned first team All-Bergen County honors 8 times, All-State honors, and had one of the fastest times in the country in the 3200 meters in 1988 (10:43.8). She competed in the National Junior Championships against the best in the nation that year. Her accomplishments at Ridgewood High School led to her earning a full athletic scholarship at Providence College where she competed in cross country and track for all 4 years. At Providence, Jean earned 12 letters, captained her Cross Country team to top finishes at the NCAA Division-1 National Championship and earned 1stTeam Cross Country All-American honors in 1992 by finishing 16th in the National Championship. She alsoearned All Big East honors in Track. After college, Jean competed for the Nike Running Club and finished the 1996 New York City Marathon as the 99th overall female and the 57th American. She remained active in the competitive running scene for a number of years, coached cross country and track, and started a youth track and field summer camp. Today, she continues to promote running with all her spirit and energy. Jean Hughes Buono is an accomplished runner and coach, a Collegiate All American, married to a track coach, a mom to three great kids, anda mentor to young runners. Ridgewood High School is proud to have her joining our Athletic Hall of Fame.

Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Anne Catherine Robinson '77 Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Dr. Anne Catherine Robinson '77 The Ridgewood High School Alumni Association is honored to posthumously recognize Dr. Anne Catherine Robinson, Class of 1977, for her lifelong commitment to children and families, her leadership in advancing student wellness, and her dedication to preserving Ridgewood High School history through the RHS Arrow Project. Anne will be inducted as a member of the Distinguished Alumni Class of 2027 as her classmates celebrate their 50th Reunion. Dr. Anne Catherine Robinson (1977) Dr. Anne Catherine Robinson, Ridgewood High School Class of 1977, devoted her life to improving the health, wellbeing, and educational experience of children and families. After graduating from Ridgewood High School and attending Wesleyan University, where she met her husband Dennis, she earned her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed her residency in pediatrics at Dallas Children's Hospital before returning to Ridgewood, where she practiced medicine and became a tireless advocate for students. For more than fifteen years, Anne was a leading voice for student health in Ridgewood and throughout New Jersey. As a member of the New Jersey American Academy of Pediatrics Task Force on Adolescent Sleep and School Start Time and Vice Chair of the Health Advisory Board at WholeHealthED, she helped advance initiatives that led Ridgewood and school districts across the state to adopt later school start times, placing student wellbeing at the center of educational policy. Anne also played an instrumental role in preserving Ridgewood High School history through the RHS Arrow Project, an ambitious effort that digitized every RHS yearbook dating back to 1898, creating an enduring resource for alumni, students, and the broader Ridgewood community.  Anne and Dennis shared a remarkable 45-year marriage and raised their three children, Emily, Michael, and Catherine, in Ridgewood. Richard Chilton (1976)

Richard Lockwood Chilton, Jr. is the founder, Chairman and CEO of Chilton Investment Company. Since founding Chilton Investment Company with his Flagship Strategy in 1992, Mr. Chilton has built a broad organization and a team of investment professionals focused on long term capital growth. The Chilton Flagship Strategy has generated impressive and consistent returns with moderate volatility since inception. In addition, in 2010 Mr. Chilton founded Chilton Trust Company which is a nationally chartered broad-based wealth management trust company focusing on services to high-net-worth individuals and families. Mr. Chilton is vice chairman of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, trustee emeritus of the Robin Hood Foundation, chairman emeritus of Greenwich Academy, trustee of the Richard Hampton Jenrette Foundation and trustee of the Yale Berkeley Divinity School. Prior to forming Chilton Investment Company, Mr. Chilton was a managing director at Allen Value Incorporated and a vice president and equity portfolio manager at Alliance Capital Management Corporation. Mr. Chilton began his career in the Mergers and Acquisitions group at Merrill Lynch and Company and received his B.S. in Finance & Economics from Alfred University. 

Medha Kirtane (1996)

Medha Kirtane, Ridgewood High School Class of 1996, is a distinguished educator and lifelong advocate for inclusive public education. She earned her B.A. from Williams College and a M.Ed. from Harvard Graduate School of Education. In 2023, Kirtane received the Ashby Award, the highest honor Ridgewood Public Schools can bestow on a faculty or staff member. In 2021, Kirtane was named New Jersey History Teacher of the Year, an award presented annually by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to K-12 American history education. She has also received the Merrill Presidential Scholar Secondary Teacher Award from Cornell University (2026), University of Chicago Outstanding Educator Award (2018), British University Summer School Fellowship to Oxford University (2015), Princeton University Distinguished Teacher Award (2012) and Excellence in Teaching Award from Carleton College (2009). Teaching grants from the National Endowment of the Humanities and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and her esteemed colleagues have informed her teaching of U.S. History, Law and Senior Seminar at RHS. As the former Head Coach of the Girls Tennis Program for a decade, Kirtane saw the team to four North I Group IV State Sectional Championships, was inducted into the “Century Club” for 100-plus wins and earned recognition as “Coach of the Year” in the County, League and Division.  Kirtane has also been the Faculty Advisory to numerous school clubs including the Asian Festival at Ridgewood, a role she was honored to carry forward after participating as a student when at R.H.S. Her greatest honor has been learning beside her students and watching them engage in compassionate action to better the world around them.
