The Streak of 44 (2014)

1990 Boys Lacrosse Seven Hundred and sixty five days. That's how long the Ridgewood High School Boys Lacrosse team went without a loss between 1990 and 1992. And in that span, a group of student-athletes, coaches and administrators made history and helped to change the athletic landscape in Ridgewood. If people in Ridgewood were asked about the sport of lacrosse during the late 1980's, besides a host of blank stares, the best response might have been "Oh, is it that thing where kids run around throwing with butterfly nets?" But that was about to change. In only its fifth year as a program, Ridgewood High School's lacrosse team showed signs of improvement. In 1989 the team was undefeated in the regular season and made the state playoffs for the first time. However, that was just the beginning of a rise to state and national recognition that would carry the reputation of Ridgewood High School lacrosse forward to the present day. The 1990 team had high expectations for their season and going in to an early season match up with perennial state powerhouse Mountain Lakes, they would be tested. That afternoon Ridgewood was given a lacrosse lesson they would use as a means of inspiration, through humiliation, losing to Mountain Lakes 14-4. It was the last time Ridgewood would taste defeat for more than two years. Over the next 25 months, the team would dominate the entire state, winning two league championships, two state championships and setting the record for most consecutive wins in the history of New Jersey lacrosse with a run of 44 victories in a row thereby creating what will ever be referred to in Ridgewood High School lacrosse history as the "The Streak of 44". Head Coach Steve Jacobson and Assistant Coaches Bob Turco, Craig Chiesa and Bob Blakely built a powerhouse that won games over the course of the streak by an average score nearing 11 to 3.During "The Streak", the team scored 470 goals while only allowing 120. The team only trailed at half time once while never giving up double digit goals in any game. During "The Streak", Ridgewood produced 21 all-league players, 20 all-state players, 7 All-Americans and 2 New Jersey State players-of-the-year. On May 3, 1992, when the streak finally came to an end, it wasn't just town or state news...it was national news with the USA Today reporting that the Ridgewood Boy's Lacrosse team had finally lost a game. But by that point, everyone in Ridgewood knew what lacrosse was and the rest of the state and the country knew what they would face whenever a Ridgewood lacrosse team stood across from them on a field in competition, a fierce desire to succeed and a burning desire for victory. The 1990, 91 and 92 Teams would like to thank former Athletic Director Dave Vanderbush, past Ridgewood Junior Lacrosse Presidents Dave Fuhs, Mark Jackson, James Sullivan and former District Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics Dave Marsh for their hard work and constant support. The 1990-19992 RHS lacrosse teams embody what we recognize today as the Ridgewood High School "Tradition of Excellence" and rightly deserve their place as one of the great beacons of inspiration in the Ridgewood High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Anne Catherine Robinson '77 Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Dr. Anne Catherine Robinson '77 The Ridgewood High School Alumni Association is honored to posthumously recognize Dr. Anne Catherine Robinson, Class of 1977, for her lifelong commitment to children and families, her leadership in advancing student wellness, and her dedication to preserving Ridgewood High School history through the RHS Arrow Project. Anne will be inducted as a member of the Distinguished Alumni Class of 2027 as her classmates celebrate their 50th Reunion. Dr. Anne Catherine Robinson (1977) Dr. Anne Catherine Robinson, Ridgewood High School Class of 1977, devoted her life to improving the health, wellbeing, and educational experience of children and families. After graduating from Ridgewood High School and attending Wesleyan University, where she met her husband Dennis, she earned her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed her residency in pediatrics at Dallas Children's Hospital before returning to Ridgewood, where she practiced medicine and became a tireless advocate for students. For more than fifteen years, Anne was a leading voice for student health in Ridgewood and throughout New Jersey. As a member of the New Jersey American Academy of Pediatrics Task Force on Adolescent Sleep and School Start Time and Vice Chair of the Health Advisory Board at WholeHealthED, she helped advance initiatives that led Ridgewood and school districts across the state to adopt later school start times, placing student wellbeing at the center of educational policy. Anne also played an instrumental role in preserving Ridgewood High School history through the RHS Arrow Project, an ambitious effort that digitized every RHS yearbook dating back to 1898, creating an enduring resource for alumni, students, and the broader Ridgewood community.  Anne and Dennis shared a remarkable 45-year marriage and raised their three children, Emily, Michael, and Catherine, in Ridgewood. Richard Chilton (1976)

Richard Lockwood Chilton, Jr. is the founder, Chairman and CEO of Chilton Investment Company. Since founding Chilton Investment Company with his Flagship Strategy in 1992, Mr. Chilton has built a broad organization and a team of investment professionals focused on long term capital growth. The Chilton Flagship Strategy has generated impressive and consistent returns with moderate volatility since inception. In addition, in 2010 Mr. Chilton founded Chilton Trust Company which is a nationally chartered broad-based wealth management trust company focusing on services to high-net-worth individuals and families. Mr. Chilton is vice chairman of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, trustee emeritus of the Robin Hood Foundation, chairman emeritus of Greenwich Academy, trustee of the Richard Hampton Jenrette Foundation and trustee of the Yale Berkeley Divinity School. Prior to forming Chilton Investment Company, Mr. Chilton was a managing director at Allen Value Incorporated and a vice president and equity portfolio manager at Alliance Capital Management Corporation. Mr. Chilton began his career in the Mergers and Acquisitions group at Merrill Lynch and Company and received his B.S. in Finance & Economics from Alfred University. 

Medha Kirtane (1996)

Medha Kirtane, Ridgewood High School Class of 1996, is a distinguished educator and lifelong advocate for inclusive public education. She earned her B.A. from Williams College and a M.Ed. from Harvard Graduate School of Education. In 2023, Kirtane received the Ashby Award, the highest honor Ridgewood Public Schools can bestow on a faculty or staff member. In 2021, Kirtane was named New Jersey History Teacher of the Year, an award presented annually by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to K-12 American history education. She has also received the Merrill Presidential Scholar Secondary Teacher Award from Cornell University (2026), University of Chicago Outstanding Educator Award (2018), British University Summer School Fellowship to Oxford University (2015), Princeton University Distinguished Teacher Award (2012) and Excellence in Teaching Award from Carleton College (2009). Teaching grants from the National Endowment of the Humanities and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and her esteemed colleagues have informed her teaching of U.S. History, Law and Senior Seminar at RHS. As the former Head Coach of the Girls Tennis Program for a decade, Kirtane saw the team to four North I Group IV State Sectional Championships, was inducted into the “Century Club” for 100-plus wins and earned recognition as “Coach of the Year” in the County, League and Division.  Kirtane has also been the Faculty Advisory to numerous school clubs including the Asian Festival at Ridgewood, a role she was honored to carry forward after participating as a student when at R.H.S. Her greatest honor has been learning beside her students and watching them engage in compassionate action to better the world around them.
