James Sullivan (2010)

1995 Swimming James Sullivan, a 1995 graduate, is one of the top swimmers in the history of Ridgewood High School. Sullivan was ranked 101st in the world in the 1,500-meter freestyle (for all ages) after his junior year, and for three years, he was a captain of the Ridgewood High School swim team. His senior season, he was named first team All-County in both the 200- and 500-meter freestyle, winning both events at the Northern New Jersey Interscholastic League (NNJIL) meet, and he racked up the most points for his team, as the Maroons finished with a 10-2 record and a third-place showing at the NNJIL meet. Said Ridgewood head coach Annie Fischer at the time, "James has always been very dedicated to the team. He has shown a lot of leadership and has always been a positive influence on the other kids." Sullivan was ranked among the top five college recruits in the nation and was invited to attend the USA Swimming National Team Eagle Camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. In the 1993-94 campaign, Sullivan was the team's points leader and was first team All-County in the 200-meter freestyle and second team All-County in the 500 freestyle, as Ridgewood placed second at the league meet. He beat out Bergen Catholic's Kevin Pchola with a time of 1:47.22 for the 200 freestyle championship of the league meet. In the 1992-93 season, Sullivan was named the Most Valuable Swimmer for the Maroons, who compiled a 10-1 record and had a second-place finish at the league meet. He made second team All-County in the 400 relay and honorable mention All-County in the 100 butterfly. As a freshman in the 1991-92 season, Sullivan was named the Most Promising Swimmer for the Maroons (6-5) after being named second team All-League in both the 200 and 500 freestyle. While in high school, Sullivan was a four-year captain (1991-95) of the Ridgewood YMCA Breaker swim team. He was a three-time Y national champion in both the 500 and 1,650 freestyle. Sullivan also was a Junior National East champion in the 1,500 freestyle and a Senior National finalist. The summer after his senior year of high school, Sullivan was training to make the Olympic trials cut at the Senior Nationals, but badly injured every muscle in his upper back. "That ended up slowing down my swimming career," he said. "I spent freshman year [at Princeton University] kicking practice rather than swimming and saw about 100 different doctors. Over the course of the four years, I spent 20-to-30 hours a week in rehab or visiting doctors. By sophomore year, I was splitting my time between kicking and swimming and only able to compete in a limited few meets. It wasn't until the end of junior year that I had recovered enough and scored a personal best time in the 1,000 freestyle. I was awarded the John Alan Swabey Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the swimmer for their contribution through spirit, sportsmanship and improvement in swimming." His senior year at Princeton, Sullivan was elected captain of the swim team. After graduation, he spent several years consulting in the energy industry and then received an MBA from Duke University. Sullivan is currently a vice president of operations for a national real estate developer and oversees the process of greening/creating eco-friendly apartment communities. After a long hiatus from swimming, Sullivan has taken it back up and completed the 4.4-mile Chesapeake Bay Swim this summer and plans to do similar races as well as triathlons.

Dr. Anne Catherine Robinson (1977) Dr. Anne Catherine Robinson, Ridgewood High School Class of 1977, devoted her life to improving the health, wellbeing, and educational experience of children and families. After graduating from Ridgewood High School and attending Wesleyan University, where she met her husband Dennis, she earned her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed her residency in pediatrics at Dallas Children's Hospital before returning to Ridgewood, where she practiced medicine and became a tireless advocate for students. For more than fifteen years, Anne was a leading voice for student health in Ridgewood and throughout New Jersey. As a member of the New Jersey American Academy of Pediatrics Task Force on Adolescent Sleep and School Start Time and Vice Chair of the Health Advisory Board at WholeHealthED, she helped advance initiatives that led Ridgewood and school districts across the state to adopt later school start times, placing student wellbeing at the center of educational policy. Anne also played an instrumental role in preserving Ridgewood High School history through the RHS Arrow Project, an ambitious effort that digitized every RHS yearbook dating back to 1898, creating an enduring resource for alumni, students, and the broader Ridgewood community.  Anne and Dennis shared a remarkable 45-year marriage and raised their three children, Emily, Michael, and Catherine, in Ridgewood. Richard Chilton (1976)

Richard Lockwood Chilton, Jr. is the founder, Chairman and CEO of Chilton Investment Company. Since founding Chilton Investment Company with his Flagship Strategy in 1992, Mr. Chilton has built a broad organization and a team of investment professionals focused on long term capital growth. The Chilton Flagship Strategy has generated impressive and consistent returns with moderate volatility since inception. In addition, in 2010 Mr. Chilton founded Chilton Trust Company which is a nationally chartered broad-based wealth management trust company focusing on services to high-net-worth individuals and families. Mr. Chilton is vice chairman of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, trustee emeritus of the Robin Hood Foundation, chairman emeritus of Greenwich Academy, trustee of the Richard Hampton Jenrette Foundation and trustee of the Yale Berkeley Divinity School. Prior to forming Chilton Investment Company, Mr. Chilton was a managing director at Allen Value Incorporated and a vice president and equity portfolio manager at Alliance Capital Management Corporation. Mr. Chilton began his career in the Mergers and Acquisitions group at Merrill Lynch and Company and received his B.S. in Finance & Economics from Alfred University. 

Medha Kirtane (1996)

Medha Kirtane, Ridgewood High School Class of 1996, is a distinguished educator and lifelong advocate for inclusive public education. She earned her B.A. from Williams College and a M.Ed. from Harvard Graduate School of Education. In 2023, Kirtane received the Ashby Award, the highest honor Ridgewood Public Schools can bestow on a faculty or staff member. In 2021, Kirtane was named New Jersey History Teacher of the Year, an award presented annually by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to K-12 American history education. She has also received the Merrill Presidential Scholar Secondary Teacher Award from Cornell University (2026), University of Chicago Outstanding Educator Award (2018), British University Summer School Fellowship to Oxford University (2015), Princeton University Distinguished Teacher Award (2012) and Excellence in Teaching Award from Carleton College (2009). Teaching grants from the National Endowment of the Humanities and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and her esteemed colleagues have informed her teaching of U.S. History, Law and Senior Seminar at RHS. As the former Head Coach of the Girls Tennis Program for a decade, Kirtane saw the team to four North I Group IV State Sectional Championships, was inducted into the “Century Club” for 100-plus wins and earned recognition as “Coach of the Year” in the County, League and Division.  Kirtane has also been the Faculty Advisory to numerous school clubs including the Asian Festival at Ridgewood, a role she was honored to carry forward after participating as a student when at R.H.S. Her greatest honor has been learning beside her students and watching them engage in compassionate action to better the world around them.
